The McMurry University Honors Program

Overview

The Honors Program is a four-year honors track designed to enrich the college experience of our most outstanding students. Honors courses are small and guarantee a stimulating intellectual challenge. During the senior year, each honors student prepares a thesis that is the product of the student’s independent research conducted under the supervision of his or her major professors. Honors courses, thesis research and conference participation help honors students develop the skills, creative independence and confidence necessary for success in graduate training and professional life.

Curriculum

Students will complete 12 hours of honors work before the senior year and write a senior thesis. In order to continue in the program and retain an honors scholarship, students must maintain a 3.25 GPA for their honors work and a 3.5 GPA for all McMurry course work. The program sponsors a variety of extracurricular activities, including off-campus field trips, opportunities to meet with visiting lecturers and informal discussions on topics of interest. It also provides funding for honors students to attend meetings of academic societies.

Outcomes

Recent Honors Program graduates have gone on to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Duke, Rice, Carnegie-Mellon and many other prestigious institutions. If you are serious about academic excellence, the McMurry University Honors Program is for you!
